Create a Detailed Menu from A to Z

The detailed menu is indexed by Google and can be updated in just a few clicks. Create it, organise it into sections, add your dishes, and publish it in four simple steps, with no technical skills required.

Written by Odile Lodewijck

The detailed menu is displayed directly on your website. Unlike a PDF, it is indexed by search engines, and you can edit it whenever you want without having to go back to a file. Here's how to create it:

  1. Start creating your menu

  2. Organise your menu into sections

  3. Add your items

  4. Publish your menu

Start creating your menu

In the Site Editor, open Options > Menu.

If the option is not available, click on the Activate more options button.

  1. In the panel on the right, click Create a menu.

  2. In the Create & Publish window, select Create a detailed menu.

Then fill in the form:

Field

What you need to know

Name

Required, maximum 70 characters. For example, "Our menu" or "Lunch menu".

Description

Optional, maximum 350 characters. Ideal for specifying side dishes or providing additional information.

VAT on price

Indicate whether the prices you enter include VAT (set to "Yes" by default).

Cover image

Optional. The image displayed on the menu page (JPG, JPEG, PNG or WEBP).

Thumbnail

Optional. The image displayed in the link to the menu page (same formats).

Translations

Enable the toggle for the desired language to make your menu available to international customers.

Save your changes: your menu has been created, and all that's left is to add its content.

Organise your menu into sections

Starters, main courses, desserts, drinks… Just like a printed menu, your menu is organised into sections. Initially, there are none, so it's up to you to create them.

  1. In the panel on the right, open Settings > Sections.

  2. Click Create a section.

  3. Give it a name in the main tab, then add a description if needed. If your menu is translated, switch to the other language tab and click Automatic translation, below the name, to save time.

  4. Under Hide photos, tick the box if you don't want photos of the upcoming items in this section to appear on your website. Please note: if a photo is not available for one of the items, your logo will be displayed instead.

  5. Click Create section.

Important: an empty section will not appear on your website. Remember to add at least one item to it.

On the Manage sections page, you can rearrange your sections using drag and drop, edit them using the pencil icon, or delete them using the bin icon.

Add your items

Dish, drink, set menu… There are two ways to add them: Quick Add to get straight to the point, or Advanced Add to provide all the details AND translations.

Advanced Add

  1. In the panel on the right, click Settings > Manage items.

  2. In the Create item window, select Add a new item. The Publish an item option is only used to republish an item that has already been created but is hidden.

  3. Complete the form, switching between language tabs if your menu is translated:

    • Name and description;

    • Price and, if needed, promotional price;

    • Section: select the section where the item should appear from the list;

    • Price variations, for example, glass or bottle (once added, the regular price is no longer displayed);

    • Attributes: vegetarian, popular, allergens, etc.;

    • Photo (optional).

  4. Click Save. The button will remain greyed out until all required fields have been completed.

Quick Add

  1. Under the section of your choice, click Quick Add.

  2. Enter the name, description and price.

  3. Confirm by clicking Quick Add.

Please note: this method does not support translations, photos, attributes or price variations. No problem: click Edit next to the item to add these later.

Good to know

  • Each item is displayed in its section with its name, attributes and number of price variations.

  • An item must be assigned to a section before it can be published.

Publish your menu

Is your menu ready? There are just a few settings left before you can publish it online.

  1. In the panel on the right, click Publication. As long as the menu is not online, its status will be displayed as "Not published".

  2. Under Publication dates, open the dropdown menu and choose how long your menu should remain visible:

    • Permanently: the menu remains online until you remove it;

    • From a specific date: the menu appears on the selected date;

    • For a specific period: enter a start date and an end date, ideal for seasonal or holiday menus. The menu will automatically appear and disappear on the specified dates.

  3. Under Display options, find Display prices. Leave it set to "Yes" to display your prices, or select "No" to hide them throughout your menu.

  4. Click Save.
